A&B MYLEC INTRODUCING - MARKETMASTORTM

A&B Mylec have developed a new tool that can be used by Technical Marketing Specialists and Utility Operations Managers to evaluate how their products and feed stocks:

  • Compare in the marketplace,
  • Compare with other coals in various value-in-use studies,
  • Perform in blending studies with domestic and international coals,
  • Could deliver higher revenue through optimising product specifications, and
  • Improve efficiencies and lower $/GWhr through better source coal and blend selection.

The tool is flexible and can also be utilised by coal quality technologists to evaluate coal quality variations, develop correlations, identify outlying data or by superintending staff to optimise product blends, identify effects to the customer of out of specification product and monitor variations of product quality over time.

What is MarketMastor?

MarketMastor is a visual tool to assist all users of coal quality information to assess data and compare with other related data via dashboards containing interactive charts, tables with filtering capabilities. Each MarketMastor tool is tailored to suit each customer’s requirements and suitable for all thermal and coking (metallurgical) coals. The power of MarketMastor is delivered through integration with the extensive A&B Mylec World Coal Quality database. The figure below shows the structure of MarketMastor with some of the functional components.

What can MarketMastor do for me?

There are many potential advantages to using MarketMastor. Some relevant examples are provided below.

  • A Marketing specialist can run simulations using, an international coal product database, the IMPACT-Thermal value-in-use model, international power plant data, and blend modelling tool, to evaluate thermal coal blending options using their products to target new markets and regions to deliver maximum revenue.
  • A coal producer developing a new coking coal resource can utilise MarketMastor to evaluate how the potential products will compare in utilisation performance and value in the world market. The producer can fine tune their washing and blending strategy to develop products to maximise profit.
  • A technical specialist responsible for approving final product specifications before export might utilise MarketMastor to monitor coal quality trends and assess the impact of coal quality changes to the customer. For example, the specialist might use MarketMastor to gauge customer operational and value impact from increased volatile matter levels by performing a value-in-use assessment and associated MarketMastor comparative analysis.
  • A power station coal supply department might have arranged a long term coal supply contract. The operations department might have discovered over several months the coal was causing high mill wear problems and consequently high maintenance costs. The operations manager can use MarketMastor to evaluate the problem, assess the negative impact the coal has on operations and identify suitable, alternate coals (eg: with low quartz content) that can be sourced and blended with existing contract coal to minimise the wear problems.

Case Studies

Two case studies have been developed using MarketMastor. See attachments below.
